I participated in the Broad Street 10-miler on Sunday. My PB in distance ... so far. It is kinda nice that almost every event counts as a personal best. :-)
The weather conditions were less than ideal. It was unseasonably hot and humid. I also had not started to train and hydrate.
The event was not as "enjoyable" as my 8k during the Marathon. It was fine and I ran my own race. I just found the people were different. Many people at the event fancied themselves "elite". I heard several negative comments and snickering about what people were wearing. I think in events 10 miles and less there is a huge emphasis on speed. The runners who consider themselves "fast" do not have much respect for other runners.
Also, almost everyone wore ear buds. It was difficult to have conversations. So, pretty much standing in the corral waiting to start, people only spoke to "teammates" or not at all.
None the less, I finished respectably and am quite pleased with myself. I have no major aches or pains from the event for which I am most thankful.
