The World Cup - the largest sporting event in the world.
This is the fourth day of the World Cup. I have rearranged my schedule around it. If possible I try to stay home until the games are over. On Saturday I had to take my daughter to tennis lessons followed by her tournament. I kept saying to her "who schedules a tennis tournament during the world cup?" In between the lesson and the tournament we had a couple of hours, it was too far to drive home and back so I thought I would pop into Best Buy to catch some of the England vs USA match. Well, it was not on. At first I thought because some of the t.v.'s had commercials it was half time. To my surprise and disappointment they just were not showing it.
I still find the lack of interest in soccer confusing. My boys play soccer and it is huge in this area. On opening day there is a parade with all the kids in their uniforms. The teams are U4 going all the way up; boys and girls.
A good percentage of the people I know have kids who play soccer.
How come soccer is still being called "unpopular" in the States?
