Took the children to see "Cloudy with Chance of Meatballs." What a colossal waste of time!
O.K. maybe not totally colossal. I think the message on genetically enhanced food got lost in the overplaying for humor. The children were entertained I suppose. Even though my 11 year old said "it was kinda disgusting eating popcorn while watching all that food on the screen."
My real beef is with movies geared to kids in general. Why are they all in 3-D? After paying $7.50 per child and $8.00 for adult (matinee price), 3-D is another $3.50 each. That is outrageous! There is a bin to recycle the 3-D glasses at the theater, why not let me reuse my glasses at half the cost? My children do not care either way so non3-D it was.
After spending $30.50, there was still snacks to buy. Kids meals were $5.75 each, for which you get two handfuls of popcorn, a pack of fruit snacks and a drink. Total for what was to be a small treat - $47.75.
Next time for a small treat I should go to Target have them pick a DVD, a box of popcorn (6count), a box of fruit snacks (6count), a pack of low-sugar juice (9 count) and I could get shampoo, a magazine and still have a bit of change.
Hi Serchah,
ReplyDeleteMy family and I watched our first 3D movie at the cinemas today, and I have to say that apart from the outrageous cost of the outing itself (it's pretty expensive in the uk too, almost £8/$12 for an adult ticket, a small box of popcorn costs about £2/$4) I wasn't that impressed with the whole 3D thing at all, there was just no 'wow factor' there. I was expecting something a bit more in your face if you know what I mean, things 'coming at you'? I visited a few touristy areas in California a few years ago, and i'm pretty sure the 3D experience they offered were of a much higher standard, so I say 'boo!!!' to 3D too for now.
Over here in the UK, it's legal to bring your own food into the movie theatre, so we always go in armed with some goodies, but buy a small box of popcorn while we're there too, the kids love it, and going to the movies is never the same without at least a little popcorn, is it?!?! Maybe you could bring in your own food too, if it's legal? It doesn't save you much money really, but it left me feeling a little less 'ripped off' inside, lol.
We haven't seen 'Cloudy with ...', but i'm glad to hear it had some kind of environmental/health message, every little step forward to making the world more aware or a better place, I think, is fab. We saw Up! today by the way, and if you haven't seen it, I'd recommend it, my kids loved it and the message is so sweet!!!

Wow bringing your own food! That is discouraged here.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's discouraged here, in the USA, but as far as I know it's not illegal to bring in your own food. Although I don't do that. Here they give us free refills on drinks and popcorn, so we get one of each and share. I bring in brown paper lunch bag to split the pop-corn. We each get our own straw to share the drink.
ReplyDeleteTheaters here also offer a $5 club. It's FREE to belong to the club, so we joined! We, because we belong to the $5 club, can get in to see the movie $5 a person. Of course this doesn't apply to opening weekend of the movie, but that's okay. We are more then happy to wait.
So we can generally see a movie for $30 (that includes tickets and treats).
