I rarely turn the t.v. on in the mornings. I happened to this morning, to hear the passing of Sen. Kennedy. Even though we knew it was coming, it is still sad.
I think the sadness comes in the timing of his illness and now his death. His active participation during the past year and a half was visibly missed. Sen. Kennedy's life of service touched everyone whether you supported his politics or not. Lowering the voting age, increases in minimum wage, handicap access, are among some of the many legislative acts that touched all segments of the society.
One of Sen. Kennedy's last acts of influence was his endorsement of Barack Obama. That truly was a significant moment when it seemed "Change" and "Hope" had a chance. His passing of the torch speech at the convention was inspiring and touching.
Honestly, I did not follow Kennedy's life closely, nor do I know of all his accomplishments, but I admire the way he carried his family's legacy of service. The Kennedy family are one of privilege and it is quite admirable their dedication to service and community.
The U.S. Senate should be inspired to make a significant move towards Health Care Reform.
"This time we will not fail," Sen. Kennedy at the attendance of the health care forum at the White House a few months ago.
"Greatest U.S. senator of our time," - Pres. Obama.
